Synthetic Daydream

Synthetic Daydream focuses on corporeality of our everyday relationships with objects. It began with the observation that many ordinary actions already contain forms of intimacy and touch: we press a cup to our lips, stand naked under the shower, run our hands over surfaces, and constantly interact with objects through our bodies.

The project consists of a series of sculptural objects and video performances in which familiar household items acquire individual bodily features. While keeping their original function, they make familiar gestures unexpectedly intimate and shift them into the realm of emotional and tactile experience.

I am interested in the moment when an object stops being perceived as a thing and begins to evoke the kind of response we usually direct towards something living. Through different degrees of realism and abstraction, the project looks at how this response takes shape and why something artificial can feel surprisingly close.
